Kogin and Hishizashi Embroidery
Kogin zashi is a traditional Japanese form of darned embroidery. Often considered a type of sashiko, kogin originated with the farmers of the Tsugaru region in northern Honshu, Japan.
Hishizashi is a darned embroidery style from the nearby Nanbu region in Honshu. Originally developed to reinforce hemp garments with cotton threads, Hishizashi is characterized by intricate diamond patterns in varied shapes and colors. It is stitched over an even number of weft threads, unlike kogin zashi, which uses an uneven number.
