This design emulates a traditional Japanese rice bag, known as a komebukuro, —perfect for showcasing solid fabric pieces or creating striking patchwork strips.

Komebukuros come in many shapes and styles. This one is characterized by diagonal panels, and drawstring tabs

The pattern is taken off a vintage find in Tokyo. Originally used to carry rice and offerings to temples, the komebukuro holds cultural and artistic significance. This modern adaptation allows you to stitch your own version, by hand or machine, using vintage or modern fabrics. The result is a beautiful, functional bag with a story behind every stitch.
